Needville High School has been recognized by the Texas Association of Student Councils (TASC) for outstanding achievement in leadership, service, and activities that positively impact both the school and community. The council earned honors in Outstanding Student Council; Drugs, Alcohol, Safety and Health (DASH); Pride and Patriotism; and Energy and Environment, in addition to submitting a Community Service Report. These accomplishments have earned Needville High School the distinguished designation of a Sweepstakes Council. Sweepstakes Councils must be recognized as an Outstanding Student Council and receive outstanding recognition in DASH; Pride and Patriotism; and Energy and Environment, as well as submit a Community Service Report. TASC has over 1100 member schools. Of those, Needville High School is one of only 278 student councils statewide to receive this highly esteemed honor.
Student Council members develop valuable skills in teamwork, problem solving, project planning, and decision making through their involvement. Their work supports both school improvement and community service while strengthening academic and civic growth. Claire Ashburn, president of Needville High School’s student council, expressed her excitement in earning this recognition saying, “I am extremely proud of the work that our council has put into achieving this honor. This honor makes all the hours spent planning projects even more worth it. “
In addition to this recognition, Needville High School delegates joined more than 3,800 student council members and advisors from across Texas at the 90th annual TASC Conference, held March 29–31, 2026, at the Henry B. González Convention Center in San Antonio. Hosted by Rockwall High School, the conference is the largest gathering of student council leaders in the United States. TASC members work daily to make schools a place where students and staff want to be and leave our world better than they found it. It is the US's largest state student council organization.
